The first of the six submarines of project 636, built at the Admiralty Shipyard has passed the tests successfully, Interfax - AVN said.
"The tests have been completed. The delivery of product signing is scheduled in early November this year. In late January 2014, the submarine will be sent to Cam Ranh and the final minutes of the receipt of goods will be signed," a spokesman for the shipyard said.
Earlier, the "Kanwa Defense Review" magazine, dated November, made an exclusive interview with Deputy Director of RUBUN Design Bureau (Russia), Mr. Andrey Baranov, who said that the manufacturing of the six Kilo 636 class submarines for Vietnam was progressing very smoothly.
Under the plan, in 2014 Russia will hand over a 636 Kilo class submarine to Vietnam, three others in 2015 and the last two in 2016. These boats are equipped with more modern technology than the submarines of the same type of the Chinese navy.

Indian Navy to Train Vietnamese Naval Personnel

Image

The cooperation between Vietnam and India is expanding steadily as the two countries broaden their defense ties.

Namely, the Vietnamese Navy asked its Indian counterpart to train its naval personnel on Russian-built kilo-class submarines, as reported by The Asian Age.
Russia handed over the first of six Russian-built Kilo class submarines, named Ha Noi, to Vietnam on November 7. The sub was ordered under a project signed in 2009 in Saint Petersburg.
The Indian Navy also wants to sell the BrahMos supersonic missile to Vietnam.
The missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land. It is a joint venture between the Republic of India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroeyenia that have together formed BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited.
What is more, the Indian Navy had earlier been given the privilege to drop anchor at the Vietnamese Nha Trang port during a goodwill visit, becoming one of the few to be able to do that.
The cooperation could also be extended to shipbuilding industry, claim the local media.

Israeli IWI Galil ACE 31 and ACE 32 assault rifles to replace Russian AK-47 in the Vietnamese Army.

According to the Russian press agency Interfax, the Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) launches a new factory in Vietnam to produce assault rifles Galil ACE 31 and ACE 32, to replace in the future all the Russian-made Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle in service with the Vietnamese army.

Israel weapon Industries (IWI) Galil ACE 32 assault rifle

An Israeli television channel has announced that the first production of Israeli assault rifles will started at a weapons factory in Thanh Hoa which was visited by the Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Chung.

The report noted that in the future, the Galil assault rifle will be produced in mass production to gradually replace the Russian-made assault rifle AK-47 which ins service with the Vietnamese armed forces.

In September 2011, the "Globes" website revealed that Israel Weapons Industries Ltd. (IWI) (the Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI) light arms spinoff owned by Samy Katsav's SK Group) planned to build a light-arms plant in the Far East at an investment of more than $100 million.

Israel is not the only country seeking new markets for its defense industry. European companies have also discovered Vietnam and its potential.

The Vietnamese army has already adopted a wide range of Israeli small arms including the Tavor, Negev LMG, Galil SAR rifle and Galil Sniper rifle.

The ACE family of assault rifles are based upon the reliable mechanism of the famous GALIL assault rifle. The ACE incorporates enhanced human engineering and ergonomics with the demands of the modern battlefield. The ACE 31 and the ACE 32 assault rifles use standard 7.62x39mm ammunition.

Vietnam to arm new Gepard-class frigates with Palma CIWS

Image

The People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) Navy will equip its third and fourth Russian-built Gepard 3.9 (Project 11661) light frigates with the Palma close-in weapon system (CIWS), Nudelman Precision Engineering Design Bureau confirmed in a statement issued 22 April.

The PAVN is scheduled to take delivery of the vessels, reported to be anti-submarine warfare (ASW) variants, in 2017. The first two ships in class, Dinh Tien Hoang and Ly Thai Ho , were commissioned in March and August 2011 respectively and loaded with a similar CIWS.

The Palma CIWS consists of Sosna-R hypersonic surface-to-air missiles, two six-barrel AO-18KD 30 mm automatic cannons and the 3V-89 electro-optical multichannel electronic countermeasures resistant fire-control system. The principal control system is electro-optic with radar back-up.

According to company literature, the system can engage six targets at up to 8 km simultaneously depending on the number of firing modules installed. The manufacturer indicates a gun kill envelope of 0.2 to 4 km to an altitude of 3,000 m and a missile kill envelope of 1.6 to 10 km to an altitude of 5,000 m.
