New Zealand Orders 200 Trucks From Rheinmetall

Friday, May 17, 2013

New Zealand’s Defence Minister, Dr Jonathan Coleman, announced that Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia (RMMVA) has been awarded a contract to supply the country’s armed forces with up to 200 vehicles.

The contract was signed recently by Secretary of Defence Helene Quilter. Under the contract, which is worth NZ$113 million, Rheinmetall will begin supplying the trucks this year, with all of the vehicles due to be delivered by the end of 2014. The order encompasses trucks in three basic sizes: the 6-tonne 4x4, the 9-tonne 6x6 and the 15-tonne 8x8, in ten variants. Some of the trucks will be fitted with winches and cranes to allow completely independent operation. They include dump trucks for combat engineers, trucks fitted with specialized pallet and container handling equipment, and tractor/semi-trailer combinations to carry heavy vehicles and equipment. RMMVA is the Australian subsidiary of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV), the Rheinmetall Group’s specialist for logistical and tactical wheeled vehicles.

New Zealand Buys MBDA's Sea Ceptor Missiles

Oct. 7, 2013 - 10:07AM

LONDON — The Royal New Zealand Navy is set to become the first export customer for MBDA’s new Sea Ceptor missile after the weapon was nominated as the preferred choice to provide local area air defense for two frigates due for upgrade by the Ministry of Defence.

The decision to select the Sea Ceptor was announced Oct. 4 following a visit to New Zealand by British International Security Minister Andrew Murrison.

The Sea Ceptor version of the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile is being developed for installation onboard British Royal Navy Type 23 frigates. The weapon will also be installed on Type 26 frigates when construction gets underway later in the decade.

The British Ministry of Defence announced a £250 million production order for the Sea Ceptor in early September.

The missile is scheduled to enter service with the British in 2016.

Selection of the Sea Ceptor is part of a wider frigate system upgrade which includes replacement of virtually all the current sensors including the combat management system, anti-ship missile defense, electronic warfare and torpedo self-defense.

Des Ashton, the New Zealand deputy secretary of defense for acquisition said Oct. 4 the primary objective of the upgrade is to “restore the ship’s combat capability and utility to a comparative level to that of a current generation, new release combat system. This is required to counter the combined challenges of an increased level of threat sophistication coupled with obsolescence of some of the current systems.”

Beechcraft Signs Contracts with Royal New Zealand Air Force for 11 T-6C Trainer Aircraft and Fully Integrated Flight Training Solution

The foundation for the system is 11 Beechcraft T-6C Texan II turboprop military training aircraft. It also includes spare parts, training, logistics and maintenance support.

WICHITA, Kan. (Jan. 27, 2014) – Beechcraft Corporation today announced that its Defense Company has signed two contracts to provide a comprehensive pilot training system for the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF). The foundation for the system is 11 Beechcraft T-6C Texan II turboprop military training aircraft. It also includes spare parts, training, logistics and maintenance support.

Beechcraft’s Defense Company and Global Mission Support organizations partnered with Safe Air Limited and CAE as subcontractors on the two contracts. The acquisition contract includes 11 Beechcraft T-6C aircraft, two CAE operational flight training simulators, computer-based training courseware and customized RNZAF pilot training syllabi – all of which are integrated to create a comprehensive leading edge learning management system. A 30-year logistics support agreement provides turnkey support for the RNZAF flight training operations. The agreement consists of aircraft material support, full flight line and operational maintenance, as well as support and operation of the synthetic training devices.

“As the Royal New Zealand Air Force began the process of modernizing its pilot training capabilities, we were able to offer a proven, low-risk and highly capable solution that met their current and future training needs,” said Russ Bartlett, president, Beechcraft Defense Company. “With more than 825 T-6 aircraft in operation around the world, and more than 2.2 million accumulated flight hours, the aircraft has a fully tested and validated airframe fatigue life, plus an advanced avionics capability to facilitate future growth. We’re thrilled with this outstanding team of CAE and Safe Air, both existing providers to the RNZAF, and look forward to getting the program up and running.”...

PICTURE: Last T-6C trainers head for New Zealand

New Zealand’s final pair of Beechcraft T-6C trainers are on their way to the nation, where they will complete an 11-strong fleet of the type.
Registered as NZ1410 and NZ1411, the aircraft departed the US manufacturer’s Wichita assembly site in Kansas on 27 March at the start of their long-distance delivery. Its first two examples made the journey last August.

Image

The aircraft (final example pictured on arrival in Birmingham, UK, on 31 March) were ordered for the Royal New Zealand Air Force in January 2014 under a deal worth NZ$154 million ($114 million), which also included ground-based training equipment. Deliveries have been completed ahead of a schedule outlined at the time of the award, which called for all 11 T-6Cs to be delivered by mid-2015.

Operations with the new type are performed by the air force’s Ohakea-based 14 Sqn.
