http://www.defensenews.com/article/2011 ... se-ExportsInterview at the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition with Jang Joong-kyoo, vice president of the Samsung Thales export division :
Q. Could you explain recent overseas orders and ongoing negotiations ?
A. Now, we're engaged in negotiations with the Netherlands over the submarine satellite communication system; with Equatorial Guinea over frigate combat systems; with Algeria over border surveillance systems; and with Colombia over an anti-aircraft defense network system, in partnership with Thales.
Q. Do you expect a synergy effect following Samsung Techwin's acquisition of a 50 percent share last year in your firm's global marketing?
A. Of course, we expect a strong synergy effect in joint marketing with Techwin, which is the No.1 defense contractor in South Korea. Besides defense products, Techwin is the largest provider of security equipment and solutions, which means we can expand our presence in the civilian markets here and abroad as we can provide sensor and network systems for Techwin's products more effectively.
For example, both companies are conducting joint marketing campaigns overseas to sell the K-9 Thunder self-propelled howitzer equipped with fire-control and command-control systems developed by our company. We also have joined Techwin's bid to provide border security systems to Algeria.
