The Iranian Army's Ground Forces have unveiled a new indigenous simulator for Bell 214 helicopter, presenting the forces’ latest achievement in the simulation field. The simulator was showcased at a Sunday ceremony attended by Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan and a group of other Iranian commanders. The equipment, which is capable of simulating all emergency flights, will be employed in the training of pilots. The simulator will significantly reduce the costs of training flights as well as human and financial losses. On April 20, the Iranian Ground Forces also unveiled a new indigenous T-72 Tank simulator. Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems. Last week, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran would unveil indigenous ballistic and cruise missiles as well as other new military achievements by the next five months.
The Tosan (Also written Towan, meaning Wild Horse or Fury) is an Iranian light tank, for unconventional warfare. Production started in 1997, but the tank was only produced in small numbers. Mass production started in 2008. Colonel Nasser Arab-Beigi, head of the self-sufficiency unit of the IRGC ground forces, announced the mass-production of this 'Quick Reaction' tank on June 30, 2008, as part of the country's campaign for defense self-sufficiency.[3] Iran calls it a 'Quick Reaction' tank because the tank is said to be capable of rapid response and is built for strategic missions. It appears to be based on the British FV101 Scorpion (where Iran has 80 in service), the tank is fitted with a 90 mm gun, Toophan missile launchers and an improved firing and targeting systems. The tank can drive long distances on its tracks and does not need to be carried on trucks.
