After year's delay, Arrow 3 to be tested soon

The Arrow 3 can deal with missile salvos, intercepting them outside the atmosphere.

After a delay of almost a year, the directors of the Arrow anti-ballistic missile program in the US and Israel plan to conduct soon the first flight test of the Arrow 3, the latest version of the missile, designed as the response to Iran's Shahab intermediate range ballistic missiles and future threats. The Arrow 3's most important capabilities are its ability to deal with salvos of incoming missiles, rather than just single missiles, and its ability to intercept missiles outside the earth's atmosphere, reports "Defense News" Israel bureau chief Barbara Opall-Rome.

This will be the first test of all Arrow 3 systems. Subsystems have been tested previously.

"Aviation Week" also reported today that the first end-to-end test of the Arrow 3 could occur within weeks. "Some officials say the launch is imminent if all goes to plan," it says.

The Arrow 3, designed by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1), is a two-stage missile, capable of flying out of the earth's atmosphere. It receives data from optical sensors. The second-stage booster has its own engine, enabling it to maneuver towards its target. It can reach twice the altitude of the Arrow 2 missile, but is only half the weight of the older version. The Arrow 3 is designed to provide a range of options for intercepting incoming missiles, possibly including nuclear-tipped missiles.

According to Pentagon budget documents, intended to persuade US legislators that it is worthwhile investing US taxpayers' money in the project, Arrow 3 will improve the Arrow system's capabilities by providing four times the coverage of the Arrow 2.

"Aviation Week" says that the Arrow 3 is "judged by many in the US and Israel as today's best missile defense system."

Le nouvel Attaché Militaire Israelien à Washington (USA)

c'est le Général-Major Yaakov Ayash qui est nommé Attaché Militaire Israélien à Washington aux USA, il remplace le Général-Major Gadi Shamni à ce poste. je rappel que le Général-Major Ayash était Chef des Opérations de l'Armée Israelienne (il est remplacé à ce poste par le Général Har-Even)



Le poste d'Attaché Militaire Israelien est crucial lors de cette période, et ces changements ont pour but de coordonner au mieux la conduite commune (Joint Operations) entre l'Armée Israélienne et les l'US Army en cas d'une opération à large échelle au proche et moyen-orient.

Israël intégre en force le programme JSF F-35, en mettant une option sur 75 avions de plus aux 19 F 35 en commande ferme, et en intégrant au système de combat de l'appareil des élélements électroniques israéliens pour une valeur de 45 millions de Dollars US $.

Le pentagone va en effet signer un accord de 450 millions de dollars visant à intégrer au système de combat électronique de l’avion des équipements d’origine Israéliens.

Le retour sur investissement de se seul contrat de 450 millions de dollars au regard de la commande à venir d’une valeur de 2.75 milliards de dollars pour les 19 chasseurs est donc très important

C’est peut-être en pensant à ce genre de critiques de la part d’autres pays partenaires qu’il a aussi été annoncé une option pour la fourniture à Israël de 75 chasseurs supplémentaires, portant le total à 94 appareils, ce qui en ferait un des plus gros client export. La valeur totale de la commande des F-35 pourrait alors atteindre les 15.2 Mds $, soit un prix ramené à plus de 161 millions de dollars par appareil tout de même.

israel commande pour 735 millions $ de moteurs à Honeywell pour ses M-346

Honeywell has received a $735 million contract to supply Israel with F124-GA-200 turbofan engines for its Alenia Aermacchi M-346 jet trainer fleet.

The supplier says it cannot disclose how many engines Israel has purchased, but the well-equipped Middle Eastern state has ordered 30 of the twin-engined Italian-built jets.

"The F124-GA-200 engines will deliver proven propulsion performance and reliability to the IMOD's [Israeli Ministry of Defence's] M-346 fleet," the company says, noting that the F124/F125 family has accumulated over 700,000 flight hours and produces 6,000lb (26.7kN) of thrust.

As part of the contract, Honeywell will also supply spare parts and maintenance support to Israel.

Le chef d’état-major de Tsahal, le lieutenant-général Benny Gantz, a déclaré mercredi que « la Marine peut être le plus petit corps de l’armée israélienne, mais c’est la branche qui permet à Israël d’agir avec précision, tranquillement et en toute sécurité à n’importe quel point dans le Moyen-Orient. »
Gantz a fait les déclarations lors d’une cérémonie de fin d’entraînement de la Navy, à Haïfa. Le ministre de la Défense Ehud Barak, qui a également assisté à l’événement, a ajouté que «Tsahal est forte, prête et disposée à agir pour la défense d’Israël à tout moment et à n’importe quelle distance géographique. »

Selon Barak, l’armée d’Israël fait face à « des défis complexes, proches ou lointain, dont certains sont les plus complexes que l’armée israélienne ait jamais connu. L’Etat d’Israël est fort, confiant et sûr de sa force de défense: l’armée israélienne »

La flotte israélienne de drones de type Eitan autorisée de nouveau à voler après le crash de janvier dernier

Seven months after one of Israel's largest drones crashed, an army investigative committee has decided to allow the IAF's fleet of Eitan-type Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to resume operations.

The Eitan drone is able to reach great distances, reportedly as far as Iran and Libya, fly for 20 hours straight at a maximum speed of 143 knots and reach a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet.

The investigation into the crash suggested that the incident was the result of a technical malfunction. An IAF senior official explained that the investigation showed a malfunction in the material that makes up the wing of the aircraft.

The malfunction was fixed over the past few months, enabling Eitan to resume operations.

Weighing five tons, Eitan is 14 meters long and has 26 meter-long wings. Eitan is meant to be utilized in complex intelligence gathering missions. It has already been dubbed "the most advanced UAV in the world."

The aircraft will be examined several times in order to verify its ability to function properly. In addition, operations are to resume gradually.

"The engineering procedure that we have developed will include routine checks on other aircrafts," said the senior official.

The UAV, which crashed in January near Gedera, was completely destroyed in the accident. The damage was estimated at nearly $5 million.

The official source further said: "We will continue developing the squadron in effort to update its systems in the future."

Elbit Systems, IAI Wins Israeli Trainer Program Contract Worth $603 Million

Partners Elbit Systems and IAI have reached an agreement with the Israeli Defense Ministry on the Israel Air Force's future trainer program in a contract worth $603 million.

Elbit Systems, who’s share is worth $110 million, will establish an enhanced logistic support and maintenance infrastructure for the new trainer as well as an advanced ground training array over the next three years. During the project's operational phase, Elbit Systems will provide logistics services for the trainer and the new aircraft array, worth $310 million, over twenty years.

Elbit Systems outgoing president and CEO Joseph Ackerman said, “We are proud to take part in yet another important project for the Ministry of Defense and the Air Force. In recent years, we have provided the Air Force with advanced avionics systems and training infrastructure, as well as maintenance and logistics support services".

israel est en négociation avec Lockheed martin pour l'achat de 3 C-130J supplementaires

The Israeli air force has begun talks with Lockheed Martin about the possible purchase of another three C-130J tactical transports.

A first contract signed in 2010 includes three of the new-generation Hercules, but the air force has asked for a formal proposal to double the size of its future fleet. Israel is due to receive its first C-130J next year.

Israel's aircraft will be modified for the future installation of some locally produced systems, and will have a three-seat cockpit configuration, similar to that used on some US examples flown to support operations involving special forces personnel.

The Israeli air force already operates 18 C-130E/H transports, with the fleet having undergone fatigue tests with the assistance of Lockheed within the last few years. The E-model Hercules will be phased out, while the Hs will receive structural treatments.
