2012-06-02 (from Reuters and by David Lague) — It looked like a textbook win-win deal when Australian high-speed ferry designer AMD Marine Consulting formed a joint venture in 1993 with the engineering arm of a state-owned Chinese shipbuilder.
The joint venture partner, Guangzhou Marine Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of the giant China State Shipbuilding Corporation, gained access to state-of-the-art technology in wave-piercing, aluminium-hull designs.
For AMD, a Sydney-based private company, the payoff was a foothold in China’s maritime market during a period of rapid growth.
2012-06-02 — A secret chapter from the Australian government’s 2009 defense white paper detailed a plan to fight a war with China, in which the navy’s submarines would help blockade its trade routes, and raised the prospect of China firing missiles at targets in Australia in retaliation.

2012-06-12 — “China’s first female astronauts have, trained hard and conscientiously, and are now ready to take part in the Shenzhou manned spaceflights. For all astronauts the implementation of a manned spaceflight is our primary duty. They are both now ready to accept selection, by the motherland, and the Chinese people, at any moment.” This was according to Major General Fei Junlong, commander of the twenty-one person Chinese astronaut team, speaking in January.

2012-06-16 — Chinese President Hu Jintao on Saturday congratulated the country’s space scientists and astronauts on the successful launch of the Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft.
“I feel very glad to hear the success of launching the Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft and I would like to extend warm congratulations and sincere regards to all those participating in the research and tests (of the country’s space program),” Hu said in a congratulatory letter sent from Denmark’s Copenhagen, where he is paying a state visit.
2012-6-18 — Jing Zhiyuan, member of China’s Central Military Commission, met with Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro on Monday in Jakarta. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern.
Jing, who is also the commander of the Second Artillery Force of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, said China-Indonesia relations have developed rapidly in recent years, evidenced by enhanced political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation and effective communication and cooperation in various areas.
Jing said the two armies have further deepened their cooperation in high-level visits, defense consultations, personnel training, military drill, defense industries and other fields
