Libyan Air force to be re-equipped with Rafale and Typhoon multi-role fighters. And some U.S. planes too.

Quoting the Libyan Air Force Chief of Staff Saqr Geroushi a recent article by the Libyan Herald reported that proposals have been drawn up to re-equip Tripoli’s dilapidated fleet with a special consideration given to those countries that assisted Libya during the last year’s air war: France, UK, and the U.S.

Putting a few more details into his comments, Geroushi said that the Libyan Arab Air Force is looking to purchase two squadrons of French Rafale, along with a number of French Mirage F-1 aircraft (to bolster those they already have). The Libyans also plan to buy Eurofighter Typhoons from the UK as well as some more C-130 cargo planes and Ch-47 Chinook helicopters from the United States.

Therefore, although they have been challenging each other in the most important bids all around the world (and they could be considered a bit redundant as well) the Typhoon and Rafale multi-role fighters could soon operate under the same flag.

The new aircraft will probably replace most of the remaining 28 aircraft (some of those are old Mig fighters) and 9 helicopters most of which have seen better days.

Geroushi said that the plan is to base the Typhoons at Tobruk and Benina airbase in Benghazi, with the Rafale and Mirage jets flying from Gordabaya and Wattya military air bases. Furthermore, all contracts that were signed under the previous regime will be reviewed and some would more than likely be cancelled.

The Libyan Air Force is currently flying regular sorties mostly border security type missions.

Libye: plus de 100 chars saisis

Le ministère libyen de l'Intérieur a annoncé ce soir avoir saisi plus d'une centaine de chars à un groupe de partisans de l'ancien régime de Mouammar Kadhafi qui se faisait passer pour des révolutionnaires dans la région de Tarhouna, dans l'ouest du pays.
"Plus d'une centaine de chars et 26 lance-missiles ont été saisis" dans une caserne à Souk al-Ahad, près de Tarhouna, où cette milice était basée, selon le porte-parole de la Haute commission de sécurité qui dépend du ministère de l'Intérieur.

La Libye serait intéressée par des Chinooks ex-US d’après Boeing

The Libyan government is interested in acquiring used U.S. Army Chinook helicopters, according to Boeing officials.

Boeing — the maker of the Chinook — is in discussions with the State Department about “opportunities to provide” used Army CH-47E helicopters to Tripoli, Raymond Haddad, Boeing’s head of Chinook sustainment, said Aug. 28 during a briefing at a company helicopter facility here.

The State Department and U.S. Congress must sign off on foreign weapons sales.

Libya has legacy CH-47C helicopters that were acquired in the 1970s; however, it is unclear how many remain in the inventory and are flyable, especially following the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi’s government by opposition forces in 2011.

The United Arab Emirates purchased 12 CH-47C Chinooks from Libya in 2003, according to a report in the state-run newspaper The National.

“Libya is anxious for some additional capability,” Haddad said.

bonjour dil@w je crois que les us veulent juste leur enlever leur argents parceque a mon avis le chinook n'est pas une priorité pour la Libye l'armée dite reguliere se déplace encore en Toyota , la coalition a meme detruit les avions civile pour qu'il achetent tout de nouvau c'est vraiment diabolique

قال وزير الداخلية الليبي فوزي عبد العال لرويترز إن ليبيا أقالت اثنين من قادة الأمن في بنغازي بشرق البلاد بعد هجوم دام على القنصلية الأمريكية في المدينة الأسبوع الماضي.ومن المقرر أن يحل صلاح الدين دغمان وهو ضابط برتبة عقيد محل مساعد وزير الداخلية لمناطق شرق ليبيا ونيس الشارف ومدير الأمن الوطني في بنغازي حسين بوحميدة.وقال عبد العال إن قرار إقالة الشارف ومدير الأمن الوطني اتخذ الأسبوع الماضي.وأضاف أن السلطات الليبية ستفعل ما تراه صوابا إذا كان هناك نقطة ضعف داخل قيادات الأمن أثرت على العمل الأمني في المدينة.كان السفير الأمريكي لدى ليبيا كريستوفر ستيفنز وثلاثة آخرين من مواطنيه قتلوا إثر هجوم شنه مسلحون على القنصلية الأمريكية بمدينة بنغازي مساء الثلاثاء الماضي.وكان منفذو الهجوم جزءا من حشد ألقى اللوم على الولايات المتحدة بشأن فيلم نشر على الإنترنت اعتبر مسيئا للنبي محمد

Les forces aériennes libyennes participeront au Malta Air Show

Un Chinooks libyen a été envoyé à Malte pour participer au meeting aérien d'aujourd'hui samedi et dimanche. Les deux Mirages réfugiés pendant la crise libyenne à Malte ne participeront pas au show pour des raisons techniques. (ils sont en Libye car retournés le 24/01/12 http://bit.ly/S8W4LW)
